Illinois RISE Act
The Illinois RISE (Retaining Illinois Students and Equity) Act was signed into law on June 21, 2019 and grants financial aid eligibility to a subset of students who were previously ineligible. The Rise Act Application will determine eligibility based on status AND financial need.
Students impacted by the RISE Act include:
- Undocumented students who are Illinois residents
- Transgender students who do not complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) due to the requirement to report their gender “at birth”
We anticipate that the ISAC application will be available early January 2020. Students must complete the application by the UIC financial aid priority deadline of February 15, 2020. UIC plans to award up to $1850 in the UIC Opportunity Grant to newly eligible students during Spring 2020. The information provided on that application will be used to determine Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 eligibility.
UIC academic units that have internal scholarships or waivers for undergraduate, graduate or professional students may also expand eligibility for these opportunities on January 1, 2020.
