State Grants

Monetary Award Program (MAP)

The Monetary Award Program (MAP) Grant is funded by the State of Illinois. Eligible students (and parents, if dependent) must be Illinois residents, undergraduates, complete the FAFSA before the state’s deadline and meet financial eligibility criteria. Students are encouraged to file the FAFSA annually by UIC’s priority deadline of February 15. MAP awards range from $300 to $4720 for the full academic year. If students meet criteria for MAP it will be included on their award letters.

MAP funding is limited and levels are appropriated by the Illinois General Assembly. Due to state funding constraints, reductions to MAP grants are possible. UIC will not cover any shortfall in the event of reduced MAP Grant funding.

MAP disbursement is based on enrolled credit hours, with a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 15 paid hours per term. There is a limit of 75 paid hours that can be awarded to freshmen and sophomores. If this maximum is reached, students must attain junior status for MAP grant eligibility to resume. The maximum number of MAP paid hours is 135.

The chart below details MAP eligibility by term based on enrolled credit hours.
